
About The Unit

The Lehava unit is Israel's National Firefighting and Rescue unit situated under the Operations Department. The unit engages in a wide range of rescue activities, such as: Underwater search and rescue, Reinforced rescue, Swift Water rescue, Cave rescue, Surrounded Area rescue and more. Lately the unit started developing operational helicopter rescue capabilities in order to supply the best and most professional and effective response for citizens.
"Lehava" is situated under the Operations Department and is on national and country-wide stand-by for events where the unit will have relative advantage, readiness and suitable (and unique) means to provide the best response.
The unit consists of approx. 36 fighters, commanders and HQ officers, who operate in shifts and is on standby 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.


The unit also provides relief beyond the country's borders in disasters around the world,
sending response teams to:
The earthquake in Turkey in Feb 2023, the 2021 Greece wildfires, the Brumadinho dam disaster in Brasil (Jan 2019), Ethiopia's 'Roof of Africa' forest burns (April 2019), the earthquake in Mexico (Sep 2017), the earthquake in Nepal (2015) and many more.
